Funeral Tomorrow

We are going to Helen's Grandpa's funeral tomorrow. It's upsetting to think about, and I don't think Helen has quite come to terms with it yet. In this day and age we tend to think that people will live forever, and in modern medicine the doctors and surgeons do perform miracles. But, I am also reminded how fragile life really is.

A hundred people can be killed in a bus crash, train crash, but it's only when someone close to you dies that the reality hits you. We become anaesthetised to death because it's always on the news, so when people are murdered etc we shrug our shoulders.

He phoned up every week, and I spoke to him quite regularly so I will miss him as well. He always had the same things to say, but at least he was interested in what we were doing, and made the effort to start in contact.
