Escaping Chickens

If you've been reading any of my tweets (or twitterings) you'lll have noticed a few references to chickens. No, this is not a metaphor. Yes, we have a few chickens now, we did have 6, but at the last count we have five. Apparently this morning before my wife went to work we had six. She let them out of the coop, then went to work. I came by the allotment at 1pmish, counted up the chickens & lo and behold we have five.

How did the chicken get out? That was a mystery that we believe we solved around 530pm. Interestingly a chicken was loose nearby, but this one didn't have the distinctive red crests that our ones have; the man in the adjacent allotment claimed it.

Why did the chicken get out? (Why did it cross the road?) Because it could.....

As we were trying to get the chickens to go back in their house for the night (chasing round after them) one of them bolted into the fence and got halfway out...I grabbed the chicken so it couldn't escape, and put it back in the coop. Aha, there is a gap in the wire where a determined chicken could slip through; will have to close it off tomorrow.

Incidentally we had chicken casserole tonight. On Saturday we had chicken curry. Yesterday it was beef.

Which one of you gets to wring their necks when you want some good 'ol fashioned fried chicken? Mmmmm...

I don't fancy killing chickens, but I suppose it's something I might have to do! At least we only have 6 chickens, and not 30.
