Exercise Machines

There used to be a time when I turned my nose up at exercise machines. They were not proper exercise for some reason. And sure it is not the same to run on a treadmill for half an hour compared to going for a run in the countryside. But even if you can only run along roads, and occasionlly across some footpaths, it is far more enjoyable than using a treadmill.

Of course there are advantages to exercising indoors especially during the winter months. You avoid the cold and the wet, and can get a decent session in. When the roads are icy and the wind is blowing strongly there is a lot to be said for going to the gym, or if you have a few machines at home-- running on the treadmill at home.

We have a cross trainer, which is more commonly known as an elliptical machine. You do get a good workout from it, but it can be a battle to be on there for half an hour. I've found one way to combat the boredom is to listen to music.

We also have a rowing machine and upright bike, and it can be even harder staying on them for any length of time. Fifteen minutes on one is enough before you want to get off; the battle is entirely mental.

I suppose using these machines will toughen you up mentally, and make running outsides more pleasurable. When you do run outside you will appreciate it more.
